"Our Place in the Interface" is a multidisciplinary spring project that invites children to explore the wildland-urban interface through the lenses of science, storytelling, and community engagement. Rooted in the scientific method and enriched by environmental art and inquiry-based learning, students install and analyze camera traps, develop original research questions, and conduct interviews with wildlife experts and UCSC students. Through filmmaking, poetry, and public-facing educational content, the project aims to foster a deeper sense of kinship with local wildlife, reframe our relationship to shared spaces, and inspire both behavioral and emotional shifts in how we coexist within the living network of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
